PETALING JAYA: A delay in reporting Covid-19 cases to the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre is the reason behind the drastic rise in cases lately.
For three days straight, the country was shocked by news of daily cases reaching above 5,000.
The ministry confirms that the situation was caused by a delay in cases being reported, including positive cases that were found in 2020.
The drastic increase in cases is due to massive targeted screenings at workplaces and high-risk groups in several states. However, these delayed cases have been given the appropriate response by the district health office, such as patient isolation, close contact tracing and treatment for positive cases, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic) in a statement yesterday.
He also said there had been delayed reporting by private facilities via the Public Health Information System (Simka).
The ministry will work with all parties so that the issue of delayed reporting of positive cases can be handled swiftly, to break the chain of infection of Covid-19, he said.
Meanwhile, there was a new single day record for recoveries, with 4,522 cases yesterday.
This brings the total number of recovered cases to 166,049.
However, an additional 5,298 new infections were also recorded, of which three were imported cases.
Fourteen additional deaths were also recorded, with 12 in Selangor.
Once again, Selangor recorded the most daily cases yesterday, with 2,460 cases.
Johor recorded 1,020 while Kuala Lumpur recorded an additional 783 cases.
Ten new clusters were identified, of which seven were linked to workplaces.
Workplace clusters were identified in Johor, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
The remaining three clusters, from high-risk groups and from the community, were identified in Perak and Johor.
