SOUTH BEND County health officials say more vaccines are available locally and they urge eligible people to sign up, even those who already have appointments in mid- or late-March.
The St. Joseph County Department of Health has expanded its available COVID-19 vaccine appointment spots as the department will begin vaccinating 1,000 people per day.
Earlier on Monday, the health department in a Twitter posting said it had many available COVID-19 vaccine appointments at its Hedwig Memorial Center clinic.
Health officials ask those eligible to go to www.ourshot.in.gov to schedule a vaccine appointment, especially if their first dose of vaccine was scheduled for mid-March or later.
Robin Vida, health department spokesperson, said the goal is to get the most people vaccines as soon as possible.
Individuals currently eligible are those 60 and older, healthcare personnel, first responders, and long-term care staff and residents.
