Today, following the schedule, VIVO uncovered a new generation of selfie-focused phone dubbed the VIVO S9 series. This line phones not only boast of a 6nm process Dimensity 1100 processor but also come with a 44MP AF polar night soft light dual-camera. It can also take selfies with backlighting at night.
VIVO S9 Design
As you understand, the VIVO S9 series is for young customers mainly. It focuses on a slim design, fashionable look, and selfies. In comparison to the previous generation models, it comes with an improved look. And we have to say the structure is greatly changed. The lightness and thinness also set a new record for the S series.
The VIVO S9 has three fashionable colors: Impression Pickup, Midnight Blue, and White. The Impression Pickup color has a nine-color gradient that we have never seen before. The back cover adds 5 colors to the previous S7 Monet’s 4 colors. So there will be different visual effects under different light and angles.
Midnight blue and morning dew white bring quite different feelings. The frosted and satin AG glass process brings a texture.
In addition to its appearance, the VIVO S9 is lighter and thinner, shorter and lighter than the previous generation S7. This handset comes with a length of only 158.39mm, a width of 73.9nm, a thickness of only 7.35mm, and a weight of 173 grams. It is the thinnest 5G smartphone currently available in VIVOs family.
While being thinner and lighter, the structural strength is also improved. The VIVO S9 uses a mirrored aviation aluminum frame and high-gloss diamond cutting technology. This is strong and more wear-resistant, and has better heat dissipation.
VIVO S9 Selfie Shooter
The front-mounted selfie shooter is the biggest highlight of the VIVO S9. It sports a 44-megapixel AF ultra-night soft dual camera. And there is also an ultra-wide-angle lens of 8MP resolution, and it supports distortion correction. As for the main lens, the amount of light increased by 12%.
In addition to improving the sensor of the front selfie lens, the VIVO S9 also pioneered the ultra-night micro-slit fill light. The manufacturer has added two LED soft lights to the gap at the top of the screen to provide users with uniform and three-dimensional light on the face in the polar night environment. Coupled with the screen fill light function since S6, it can maximize the brightness of low-light selfies.
In addition, the VIVO S9 algorithm is also fully upgraded. In the night scene mode, it can automatically detect and enter the AI polar night mode. Plus, the camera can distinguish the face from the background and focus on optimizing the face to make the restoration more realistic.
In terms of beauty function, the previous 5-fold super-texture beauty algorithm of the VIVO S series has also been upgraded to 3D five-fold super-texture beauty. And the original 2D algorithm is upgraded to a 3D algorithm. With in-depth information, it improves the accuracy. So the beauty effect is better.

VIVO S9 Main Camera
The vivo S9 comes with a main + ultra-wide + black and white lenses combination. The main camera has a 64MP resolution, an f/1,79 large aperture, and supports OIS. The ultra-wide-angle lens has an 8MP resolution and a 120° wide-angle range. The third 2MP black and white lens will improve the picture quality.
With OIS and VIVO’s self-developed black light night vision algorithm, the VIVO S9 can focus faster and reduce noise even in dark light.
VIVO S9 Display
Our protagonist uses a 6.44-inch AMOLED screen. It supports a 90Hz refresh rate, a 180Hz touch sampling rate, and has a screen-to-body ratio of up to 91%, a 2400×1080 resolution, a typical brightness of up to 430nit, a 98% NTSC high color gamut, and supports HDR10+ certification.
The screen of the VIVO S9 also supports on-screen fingerprints. It can be unlocked in as fast as 0.32 seconds. The screen has passed the TUV Rheinland low blue light certification, reducing the blue light harmful to human eyes.

Under the hood, the VIVO S9 first launched the MediaTek Dimensity 1100 processor. It uses TSMCs 6nm process technology. There 4 A78 2.6GHz cores and 4 A55 2.0GHz cores. It integrates an ARM G77 MC9 GPU. The phone supports dual-channel UFS 3.1, up to 12+256GB storage combination. But you can also use the 3G flash memory capacity to expand the memory.
In terms of connectivity, the VIVO S9 supports 5G/4G/3G, 5G+4G dual card, and NSA/SA dual-mode network. The frequency band covers mainstream frequency bands including n1, n3 to n41, n77, n78, and n28A.
The vivo S9 sports a 4000mAh battery, which supports 33W super flash charging. In the box, we can find a 33W fast charging head, and XE160 headphones.
At last, the phone runs on the new Origin OS based on the bottom layer of Android 11. It brings new functions such as Huarong Grid, Atomic Components, Super Card Pack, and Camera Card Pack.

The 8GB+128GB version is 2,999 yuan ($371) and the 12GB+256GB model costs 3299 yuan ($510). They will go on sale on March 12.
