MADISON, Wis. — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has designated Dane County with the highest level of community transmission for COVID-19.
Whereas Dane County has reached a “high” level as of Thursday, the daily update shows Rock County has been downgraded to a “substantial” level of transmission. Dane County first hit the “substantial” level nearly one week ago.
The CDC has recommended anyone in counties with “substantial” or “high” levels to wear masks while indoors. Public health officials in Dane County have also encouraged the use of masks, but there has yet to be a countywide mandate put into effect.
Other counties with “substantial” levels include Rock, Columbia, Dodge, Jefferson, Iowa and Richland, while Sauk and Walworth counties have been upgraded to “high” levels. The majority of counties with “high” transmission levels are in the southeastern portion of the state.
The state Department of Health Services confirmed 1,573 new cases of the virus Thursday, with the state’s seven-day rolling average of new cases hitting 1,000.
