The wait for updates will soon be over for Genshin Impact players around the globe, as developer miHoYo announced on Saturday (6 March) some of the updates coming in version 1.4 as well as a release date.
While we don’t seem any closer to Inazuma, version 1.4 looks to add quite a number of things for players, including a new type of story quest with multiple endings that involve the nun-idol Barbara (who is presumably still suffering her existential crisis), Noelle, Bennett, and Chongyun.
Arriving on 17 March, Invitation of Windblume will also include the titular Windblume Festival of Mondstadt, with minigames and challenges and rewards that include two exclusive items, the Windblume Festival Commemorative Balloon and the Windsong Lyre, as well as a new 4-star weapon, Windblume Ode.
Similar to the Lantern Rite Festival in Liyue, the streets of Mondstadt will be decked out with festive décor for the occasion. It might be a good time to brush up on your aiming and gliding skills, as the trailer hints at the type of minigames and challenges that will be in the event.
There’s also going to be a new boss, the Abyss Herald, which pretty much means new boss materials and characters. The boss will likely first appear as the main character and “Bough Keeper” Dainsleif continue the investigation into the Abyss Order.

One of the new characters will definitely be Rosaria, who will finally join the game two months after her first appearance in Dragonspine in version 1.2.
Just in case you don’t already know, she’s definitely Cryo and definitely using a polearm and definitely 4*. She also looks like a burst DPS, so for those of you who already have Gan Yu, she may not seem as exciting, but for low-spending or F2P players, she could be worth a look.
Who are the banner characters?
As revealed in the Chinese livestream, we’ll be seeing some banner reruns. Players who missed Venti (Anemo/Bow) or Tartaglia/Childe (Hydro/Bow) should be pleased to see them back.
Venti, especially, is an easy fit in most team comps and one of the best control characters in the game. Tartaglia, on the other hand, can be quite the beast, especially with the Hydro Heart of Depth artifact set introduced in 1.2
In addition, the trailer also reveals some new weapons, including a sword and three bows. Look out, Skyward Harp, someone might be coming for your best-in-slot title for Tartaglia.
Some quality of life features coming in 1.4 include the ability to hold up to five Condensed Resin, as well as the ability to lower World Levels in single-player and co-op. While neither are life-changing, five Condensed Resin will be welcome for those who have limited time to play, although farming those Crystal Cores can be tedious (also, you monster, you’re pretty much going all Shang Tsung on those Crystalflies).
All things considered, while there isn’t a new region just yet, it looks like 1.4 will give players late to Genshin Impact a chance to catch up with the rest. We’re still missing Dendro characters, but with the banners announced, it seems that we’ll have to wait for 1.5 to start those Burning reactions.
Meanwhile, you can read more about whether you should wish for Hu Tao or on the current weapon banner.
