How to Wish on a Shooting Star
When you see or hear a shooting star twinkle by in the sky, you’ve gotta do a few things to guarantee your wish:
1) Make sure you’re not holding anything or sitting
2) Look to the night sky by pressing up on the right thumbstick
3) Press “A” whenever you see a shooting star in the sky
Blathers’ sister Celeste doesn’t need to be in your town for shooting stars to appear. You can see shooting stars randomly on clear nights, so keep an eye out for them while you’re out and about.
Shooting stars come in pairs. If you miss the first, make sure to wish on the second. You can only wish on a single shooting star once.
How to Get Star Fragments and Large Star Fragments
Star Fragments, Large Star Fragments, and Zodiac Star Fragments are only obtainable by wishing on stars. The more you wish on stars, the more star fragments you’ll earn.
If you’re specifically trying to get large star fragments, keep wishing on stars as they pass! They drop at random with the smaller star fragments.
You can collect the star fragments the next day. They’ll wash up on beaches across your island. If you happened to wish a lot, keep checking your beach as they’ll keep washing up. It’s unclear what exactly forces the different kind of star fragment drops, but once we know, we’ll make sure it’s on this page.
The zodiac star fragments you’ll most likely get is based on the zodiac sign currently in the sun. For instance, in April, you’ll likely get an Aries Fragment. Other zodiac star fragments can drop even when a different sign is in the sun, but those drops seem to be more rare.
Here’s when the different zodiac star signs are active and how long you have to gather various constellation fragments:
Celeste will give you recipes that require zodiac constellation star fragments, so be sure to keep them safe!
Meteor Showers and Celeste
Celeste will occasionally visit your island after 7 PM and will always appear when there’s either a meteor shower or at least the chance for a few shooting stars to appear on a clear night. The Meteor Shower event brings upon far more shooting stars than any normal night, and Isabelle will remark on it during the daily announcement, so be sure not to miss it.
When you talk to Celeste, she’ll inform you about the frequency of the falling stars and the rumors about a wand that can transform you into a whole new you. Queue the Magic Wand recipe!
Haven’t seen Celeste in a while? You can chat with her on other people’s islands and she’ll give you a recipe just like she would if she were on your island! You can only get a recipe from her once a night.
If you talk to her again, she’ll also let you know that each of the constellations has a story, and sometimes more than one. If you “run across something related to a constellation,” say, like a large star fragment from a zodiac, then bring it to Celeste next time you see her and she’ll tell you its story.
How to Get Even More Star Fragments
If you’re not seeing stars fall or if you haven’t gotten a meteor shower, you might want to consider finding someone online hosting a meteor shower event. Online communities on Discord, Reddit, and other places have groups just for this. You can also use tools like the turnip exchange to find people with open islands who have Celeste.
If you don’t want to go online, you can still do some things to try to and find those coveted falling stars.
- When the night sky is clear on your island, play with headphones on and keep the volume loud. This will help you better hear the twinkling of a star falling. It sounds similar to soft wind chimes.
- Stay outdoors around your island at night. Avoid standing near waterfalls and anything that plays music or makes loud noise. You don’t have to solely focus on the sky, but you should keep some focus on listening.
Crafting with Star Fragments
If you’re wondering what to do with star fragments in Animal Crossing, know that you’ll eventually want to use them for crafting. If you’ve come across a lot in your time playing, it’s best to hoard them!
Star fragments are rare (though not quite as rare as gold ore) so be sure to keep them in a safe spot for crafting. You’ll learn new star recipes from Celeste as you see her (some of which will be require large star fragments corresponding to the current zodiac sign), or you might get lucky and receive one from a balloon present or even a villager.
Once you craft a piece of the zodiac furniture, you can also bring those to Celeste and she’ll tell you a story.
