The news came to light in a post on the restaurants Facebook page on Thursday afternoon: Romados is permanently closed. It was our honour to serve you for over two decades. This decision was imposed upon the business and not by choice.

The Plateau restaurant at Rachel and de Bullion Sts. had garnered a devoted following since it opened in 1994.
The coronavirus pandemic, of course, forced many Montreal restaurants to close their doors and, as Eater Montreal notes, Romados had been closed to the public since Dec. 31, 2020.
Manny Machado, son of founder Fernando Machado, told Eater on Sunday: As a representative of my family, we are utterly heartbroken. Weve fought and weve been fighting to keep Romados alive, but that choice has been taken from us.
