There are concerns President Donald Trump’s records from his time in office could be lost after his administration reportedly took a “cavalier” approach to preserving the documents.  Staff have reported being tasked with taping together important documents President Trump had ripped up, amid reports the President confiscated notes and potentially used private communication channels for official business.
Donald Trump is the President of the United States until Thursday (AEDT) when Joe Biden will be inaugurated as the 46th President.
Until then armed members of the National Guard are manning street corners while the National Mall is shut down in a bid to protect the inauguration.
The event would be highly secure at the best of times, but Americans aren’t living in those times anymore.
Instead the nation is in turmoil as thousands die from coronavirus daily, and still reeling from the events of January 6, when a group whipped into a frenzy by misinformation, conspiracy theories, and their idol Donald Trump stormed the US Capitol building in an attempt to stop the certification of votes that would make Joe Biden president.
According to CBS News, streets are being blocked off and the Capitol is being locked down amid high tensions and warnings of extremist violence.
It’s expected Joe Biden will use a number of executive orders on the first day of his Presidential term in an attempt to begin addressing the “collection of crises” facing his country.
Normally the first day of a President’s term is largely ceremonial but a leaked memo has revealed Mr Biden’s plan to address some of the sizeable issues presented by the coronavirus pandemic ravaging the US and a nation divided by online misinformation and racial tension.
He’s expected to embark on a 10-day blitz to signal change to the American people according to the New York Times.
