Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos state, has signed two new bills into law.
In a statement on Monday, the governor said the new bills are the Lotteries and Gaming Authority Bill (2021) and the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission Bill (2021).
According to him, the Lotteries and Gaming Authority bill will ensure the regulation of betting and gaming activities in the state.
He also said the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission Bill will allow officials accused of mismanaging public funds to face prosecution.
Today, I signed into law two important bills, the Lotteries and Gaming Authority Bill (2021), as well as the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission Bill (2021), he said.
The latter empowers the investigation and prosecution of officials accused of the misappropriation of public funds, while the former allows for the regulation of betting, online betting agencies and the gaming sector.
Sanwo-Olu said he believed the anti-corruption bill will ensure accountability of public funds, adding that his administration will continue to remain transparent in all its dealings.
When we came into office, we made a promise that we would be accountable and responsible in the appropriation of the States resources, he said.
We believe that this law will not only ensure the accountability of public funds, but also promote dialogue among public officers to keep the trust of the people.
Our administration will continue to remain transparent and accountable in all our undertakings.
