Leona Maguire continued to show good form on the LPGA Tour by shooting an opening round 69 at the Hugel-Air Premia LA Open.
The Cavan golfer was back in action in Los Angeles just days after her career-best finish on the top tour, finishing joint second at last week’s Lotte Championship in Hawaii.
And while Maguire hit six birdies in her opening round, a double bogey on the fourth hole (her 13th) coupled with two other dropped shots meant that the former amateur world number one had to settle for a two-under-par round.
Starting on the back nine, Maguire found herself one over following a bogey on the 12th hole, before she enjoyed a run of four birdies in five holes to turn on three under.
The Slieve Russell golfer then round herself inside the top four with birdie on the third hole, before the round was undone somewhat with the double bogey on the following hole.
A good bounce-back birdie on the fifth kept Maguire near the top of the leaderboard amongst the early starters, however, a finishing bogey on the ninth meant that she dropped outside the top 10, and currently sits in a tie for 17th as the late starters begin their tournament.
Stephanie Meadow is one of those afternoon players and tees off just before 10pm (Irish time).
Thailand’s Moriya Jutanugarn is the early clubhouse leader on six under, having shot an opening round 65.
