Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen netted a goal of the tournament contender on Monday evening as Denmark beat Russia 4-1 to progress to the last-16 of Euro 2020

Denmark are celebrating progressing to the last-16 of UEFA Euro 2020 this evening after a thumping 4-1 victory over Russia in Copenhagen in their final Group C match.
Having lost their first two games of the tournament, going down 1-0 to Finland in difficult circumstances and then losing 2-1 to Belgium, the Danes knew that they needed a result against Russia this evening to stand any chance of progressing to the first knockout phase of the competition.
But when they most needed to produce a performance, they did exactly that, making light work of the 2018 FIFA World Cup quarter-finalists.
The home side opened up a two-goal lead through strikes either side of half time from Mikkel Damsgaard and Yussuf Poulsen, before Russia halved the deficit with just 20 minutes remaining courtesy of Artem Dzyuba’s penalty.

However, Denmark, went in search of another goal to secure second spot and they found what they were looking for through a sweet hit from Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen.
After Russia had only partially cleared their lines, the ball landed at the feet of the centre-back and he lashed home an unstoppable effort to claim just his second goal for his country at senior level.
Christensen’s strike saw the Danish fans inside the stadium celebrate wildly, with Denmark overcoming the traumatic experience that everyone had gone through after Christian Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest in their Euro 2020 opener against Finland last Saturday, to now secure a place in the knockout stages of the competition.
But while the Danish fans celebrated inside the stadium and across the country, Chelsea supporters’ watching on TV also celebrated Christensen’s piledriver by taking to social media.
Below, football.london has taken a close look at what some Chelsea fans had to say in response to Christensen’s stunning hit.
