Interior Health has now vaccinated approximately 275,000 people in the Interior Health region.
That figure includes 260,345 first doses and 14,071 second doses. On average, that amounts to about 2,150 doses per day since Dec. 22, 2020, when the first dose was administered in the region.
“We have immunized more than 35 per cent of people living in the Interior region and every dose brings us closer to wide-spread immunization in IH. This is our biggest tool in the fight against COVID-19,” said Interior Health CEO Susan Brown.
To date, B.C. has received 1,972,490 doses as of Thursday, and administered 1,749,375 of those doses, including 90,000 second doses. Most (1.3 million) have been the Pfizer vaccine.
A surge of vaccine doses is expected in the coming weeks. Next week, B.C. is expecting to receive 274,950 doses of the Pfizer vaccine, with a similar allotment expected each following week in May, jumping to 328,000 per week by the end of May, according to the federal government.
In the second week of May, B.C. is expecting an additional 135,600 doses of Moderna vaccine, and the first shipment of the single-dose Jansen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine is also expected to arrive early next week.
Those looking to receive a vaccine must first register, either online at getvaccinated.gov.bc.ca, by calling 1-833-838-2323, or in person at a Service BC location.
The province is currently booking those 58 and older under its age-based program, but vaccines are also sometimes available at pharmacies.
