After more than a year into the Covid-19 pandemic, the emergence of the Delta variant quickly threatened plans by some countries who’ve had rapid rollouts of vaccination and slowly started to lift restrictions.
The variant is fast causing more concern than previous versions of the Covid-19 virus. Also known as B.1.617.2, it is sweeping rapidly across SA and is becoming dominant in Gauteng – the epicentre of the country’s third wave, acting Health Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane said last week.
There have also been signs that infection with this variant could provoke different symptoms compared to infection with other variants, Health24 recently reported.
